Cold

Today was cold and wet and miserable. My perfect sort of day. The heater was going and I finished the scarf. It's wet finishing in the washing machine at the moment so I don't know if it will be a success just yet.

Now I can focus on the damned crochet. How hard can it be to keep count! Stitch markers to the rescue. In the evening I am knitting and should have Himself's jumper finished soon.

The vegepod I bought from the homeshow has arrived. I just need to work out where I want to put it as once there it won't be moved.

A trip to Bunnings for potting mix and seedlings and away I go.

Himself has been out to Ikea a couple of times today to work out how to fix the front to the integrated dishwasher. They didn't have the correct front in stock but it's doable and by george I think he's done it!

*******

The scarf has been washed and is on its second round of drying. I am pretty pleased with it. I will take a photo tomorrow.

Irritated

"I'll look after Sally. You go to craft. Enjoy".

So I went and saw the psychologist (lovely person, feeling confident), then off to craft. I had been there about an hour and the phone rings

"What time will you be home?"

It turns out my suggestion to walk Sally to the shops (a km away) and buy bread etc. wasn't a good one. They walked the dogs to the dog park and then when they were hungry I was summonsed home. OK. We went to the shops, grabbed a bite at the local cafe and came home. Whereupon SOMEONE had a nice nap on the couch while I entertained the kid. I was going to drop her back to Mum at 5 but Mum said she would pick her up so we have her for another hour.

I am having trouble with a crochet pattern. My stitch count is always out. (It's a badly written pattern I will NOT give up).

Himself is trying to put something together from Ikea. He has brain fog (man flu) and it's not working.

I have now come down with his cold (COLD!) and have a sore chest from coughing. I will not whinge like a baby.

I shall drink red wine.

Man flu

I hope I haven't spoken too soon. I see a week of symptoms ahead of him me. I am constantly RATting him and all negative so far.

Words were exchanged over invoice and work today. It was very uncomfortable but I believe the two have spoken since and things are a bit better. I can see both sides so beat a retreat and went to Karingal to pick up my new glasses and have coffee with a friend.

I have an appointment with a psychologist tomorrow and then planning to go to craft. Unless we are needed to look after Sally as she came home from school feeling crook. Which means I will have to ditch craft. Not happy but what can I do?

We have snow in the high country. The last two years have seen snow within driving distance of home but due to lock down we were unable to see it. This year there had better be snow in the nearby hills. (Nearby being a good couple of hours drive - it never gets within a proper cooee of Melbourne).

Two and a bit weeks til the federal election. I foresee things getting really dirty. And then we have to go through it all again with the state election - and that has already started getting nasty.

News on in the background as I write. Who in the name of all things sacred could leave a 3 year old on child day care bus in the heat of Queensland? In front of a sign reminding people not to leave children on buses (like the ones outside gaming venues reminding gamblers not to leave kids in cars!). The child is in hospital in a serious but stable condition as they wait to see what, if any, permanent damage has been done. She was left for over 6 hours and was found unconscious. A child died in similar circumstances just last year.

The world is a sad place at the moment. Or maybe it's just me.

Is it or isn't it?

As we hurtle towards winter the sniffles and coughs start. Himself has had a runny nose, cough and headache for a few days now. I have RAT'd him twice and he is negative for Covid.

Alice woke with a mild fever, runny nose, rosy cheeks and was grizzly. Amy gave her a RAT which was negative and sent Three off for infant Panadol. The chemist suggested it might be teething. Which considering she is nearly 8 months old with not one tooth it is highly likely.

I picked Sally up from school just as a bitter cold change hit. Ice cream was NOT on the menu today. We came home and ate too many jelly snakes and did some craft. She complained of a headache and said it was a sugar headache. Who am I to judge. Then, as I was taking her to her Mum's work she informed me she hadn't drunk any water all day as she had left her water bottle at home and didn't like using the drinking taps (can't say I blame her). No wonder the poor kid had a headache!

I cannot wait until the last bits of the kitchen are done. We aren't that happy with the quality of the work. Just messiness, poor planning and a "that'll do" attitude. Once it's all done and dusted and we can get the house back to normal I'm sure we will love it and the pain and frustration will fade. I heartily recommend not using family members for any paid work and leaving the house for major renos!

I went to work on the scarf and found evidence that Max had been sleeping on the loom again. Tomorrow will see it finished one way or another. Then I shall put my looms away, tidy the craft room and focus on finishing more projects.

I am reading a book set in 2038. As I started I thought how far in the future that is. Then I took my shoes and socks off and counted the years between 2022 and 2038. Then I curled into a ball and sucked my thumb for a while.

Eels

It's been a quiet day. I did a bit of running around to pick stuff up for K who is isolating with her Covid + daughter.

I came home and did some weaving whilst listening to pod-casts.

I was particularly taken by an interview with Patrik Svensson about, of all things, eels. Not my favourite fish by a long shot but I was fascinated to learn that they have been around for many thousands of years and have been the subject of much curiosity right up to modern times. Good old Sigmund Freud spent months as a young man dissecting eels looking for sexual organs (without success).

This article pretty much summarises the interview (it was based on Svensson's book after all) but gives also great insight into the mystery that is eels - and explains why old mate Freud was unsuccessful.

And that, folks, is it for me today. Enjoy reading about eels.

Bits and bobs

Three and his lot came over to view the new bench tops. He was very impressed. I have offered him our kitchen any time he wants to cook us a meal.

Himself tried to fill in paper work before our appointment on Wednesday with a financial advisor from our super fund. I doubt we will get any different advice from the the previous one and I don't really know what Himself is looking for but I just go with the flow.

I then attempted to weave but Himself decided it was time to move the fridge back into its position in the kitchen. That meant emptying the fridge and giving it a good clean - not the lick and promise he thought would be good enough. It is now spick and span and back in its hole. He has gone to buy paper towel so I can line the door shelves as they get sticky and are hard to clean. The main shelves are glass and easy to wipe down. I tossed a lot of stuff that was either way past date or had been open for so long I couldn't remember how long!

I now have an empty fridge and very sore fingers from cleaning.

I woke with a sore throat and a dry cough with a tight chest. A RAT was negative for Covid.

First day of May. Nearly half way through Autumn and we are finally getting Autumn weather. It must be because Easter was late this year.

Last night when we were watching telly Max decided Jinx needed a wash for a change. It is usually the other way around.

You can see his white paws hanging onto her head!

Murphy just lay there chilling and dreaming about something tasty.
