I have never discussed remuneration in a job interview.
I received the official invitation for the GP job and was gobsmacked to find out that they were offering $4.00 an hour more than I could get working in a shoe shop. It's not about the money. But it is about being paid an amount that reflects qualifications and experience.
Suffice to say I won't be starting tomorrow.
And I will never assume that the pay will reflect the responsibilities required in a job.
I feel like shit.

I'm a working girl again!
I got the job!
It's very, very part time which I think will suit me at the moment. That, with my immunisation work, will keep me out of trouble for a while! If I love it, I can look to do more further down the track. If I don't, it's a part time job which will bring in a little bit of money.
The surgeon rang and mother came through the operation well. Other Brother has spoken with her and she seemed OK. He will go and see her tonight and give me a ring when he has. And, praise be, she has a single room!
Himself is home - hopefully with a bbq chook and salad. I am too knackered to cook.
And Chris, the drunk feeling is that spaced out, not quite with the world feeling one gets when one has had too much. Without the lovely buzz!!
Weigh in tomorrow or I might be tempted to crack open a bottle of champagne to celebrate the job. And help me sleep.
Hell, I might anyway!

Sooooooo tired!!
Neighbours decided to have a barney in the street at 2.30 this morning involving much yelling and crying and more yelling and sobbing and yet more yelling until he finally drove off. Sheesh.
I was up at 5.00 to take mother to hospital. She was meant to be admitted yesterday afternoon but they didn't have a bed so it had to be 7.00 this morning. We got there at 6.30!! I wanted Dad to stay home as I couldn't see the point of him coming along for the ride. He came along for the ride. So I then had to take him home. I did get the chance to catch up with some old mates from my old work as the two hospitals are side by side.
Edge of Darkness was really good.
I have ridden my bike a lot this week and feel fabulous as a result.
Still waiting to hear about one particular job - they checked my references last week so don't know why they haven't got back to me. Himself wants me to ring them but I'm not sure what to say. Also feeling very drunk at the moment due to sleep deprivation so think I'll go and have a lie down before I make any phone calls!!

RAIN!!!
Glorious rain!! It started this afternoon and has caused havoc around town with trains cancelled, floods and cars breaking down. Typical Melbourne.
On the work front I have immunisation gigs lined up (some paperwork needs to be sorted but if all is good then I'm good to go). Not sure about having to get up at 5.00am one day to get to the site on time but it's only for a short time.
I received a phone call from another of the interviews asking for referees. The impression I got was if my referees check out, the job's mine. I have fluctuated back and forth over these jobs. I think my confidence is still pretty low. I had to speak to my old boss (from the oncology dept) to ask if she'd be a referee and that meant explaining my sudden departure. A bit difficult but I explained the best I could and will pop in and see them when mother is in having her knee done (different hospital but very close by). I was really hoping I'd hear this afternoon but was out doing my CPR refresher and am out all day tomorrow and then it's the weekend. Oh, I hope I hear from them tomorrow. They have home and mobile numbers so I'm really hoping they try both.
All this thinking and worrying about work, the heat and humidity this week and subsequent total lack of exercise will give me my third WW gain in 3 weeks. I bought myself a charm for my pandora bracelet and will only put it on when I make the decision to fully recommit.
Book club the week after next. I read so quickly that I'm going to have to work out the best time to read the books suggested or I will forget them by the time the meetings come around. Not that I was impressed with The Lovely Bones so don't really have much to say about it. But if the next book is the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo I will have to work out how to remember it without re-reading!
Three had a wonderful time in Bali and is back into TAFE and work. He and a mate had a big falling out on the last day they were there. I'm not overly fussed as this kid is a bit controlling but they had been friends since high school. Things might settle down with some distance. They were sharing a room for over a fortnight when all is said and done. One thing about Three is that when this sort of situation arises he will try and sort things out but won't take shit and will walk away if needs be. The other two will worry for ever that it was their fault!
I woke on Saturday with a niggling tooth. It got worse as the weekend wore on to the point that I was holding icy cold bottles of water against my cheek and taking neurofen like lollies. I couldn't get to sleep on Sunday the pain was so bad. Rang the dentist on Monday and got an appointment that afternoon. Antibiotics and panadeine forte and an xray to see if the tooth needs to come out. It's a partially erupted wisdom tooth so I'm really hoping it will settle. I think I might have slightly overdosed on panadeine forte as I was distinctly foggy on Tuesday. Not a nice feeling at all and have reverted back to neurofen as pain relief.
I saw "Precious" with GGF on Friday. A very interesting film and quite challenging. Quite a few members of the audience left. I'm not sure if it was the language or the subject matter which was quite confronting. On Monday Two, GGF and I saw Avatar. In 3D. I loved it. I was very dubious because - meh - love story, green message, evil big corporation against cute, innocent underdogs .... but it was great. Tomorrow GGF and I are seeing the new Mel Gibson movie the name of which escapes me at the moment ... Edge of Darkness? ... I want to see the Road which is meant to be very harrowing so need a good shoot em up action movie to break things up. I am really enjoying spending time with GGF and am touched that she's happy to spend time with her boyfriend's mother. Once I start work and she starts back at uni things will change but I will always remember this time with affection.
It was her birthday on Tuesday and Two bought her a bike (he had dismantled her old one and had difficulty getting it back together so she now has a lovely shiny new one ... only Two and Himself put it together and let's just say there is a good reason why it's recommended bikes be put together by a bicycle mechanic!). She and I went for a ride yesterday and she really struggled, poor thing. And that was before the handle bars loosened themselves from the front wheel! Hopefully she will get out a bit over the next couple of weeks and her fitness will improve.
Himself is out at a meeting (owners' corporation committee which I was on last year). Past experience suggests he won't be home til late so I'll go and watch some telly and do a bit of my jigsaw puzzle.
Have a great weekend.

3 down and 1 to go.
Interviews that is. The one I would like the most is the one I interviewed for today. The only downside is Saturday morning work. Not sure if I talked too much in the interview though! Tomorrow I see someone about doing immunisation for the corporate sector. I should have an idea by the end of next week if I've been successful in any of them. Last Saturday's interview will bring some work but I'm not sure if I really want to do it.
I did NOT like The Lovely Bones. I have heard so much about it and how it stays with you and what a brilliant book .... meh. It didn't do anything for me. Yes, it's an interesting way of looking at how a family deals with a violent death but other than that? Boring. I'm currently reading a book called "How Doctors Think" and it's very interesting. Not just from the doctor perspective but is an eye opener for anyone who works with the public and makes snap decisions on first impressions or preconceptions.
A little gain at WW last week. Not fussed. Not expecting a loss tomorrow either for a variety of reasons. Need to get my head back into the right place but I'm not what I weighed 3 months ago and that is good. The other reason I'm not expecting a loss tomorrow is that I will have to wear 'interview' clothes and they will weigh a lot more than my usual casual gear and sandals.
I cooked a risotto for the first time last night. It was a mushroom risotto off the WW site and it was fantastic. Really, really tasty and filling. Himself wants a risotto again tonight so will have a fiddle with a recipe and see what it's like. Could be an absolute disaster!
Three comes home from Bali on Sunday. He skyped me the other night. Still enjoying himself but a bit homesick and more than ready to come home.
I took Mother to the orthopaedic surgeon yesterday. She will have her knee replacement in a fortnight and it will be a torrid time for all. She has promised to do the physio and not complain if she doesn't get a single room but I think when the time comes and she doesn't get a single (she might but it's unlikely) we will hear about it. And she will find the rehab very, very hard and she doesn't do hard unless she wants to. Here's hoping I'm proved wrong.
Dr. Teacher is having some issues with Mrs Teacher. She is being very unreasonable with the proceeds of the sale of their house (wants the lot!) and unfortunately their kids are seeing sides of their parents that they probably shouldn't. He is trying very hard to ensure the kids do the right thing by their mother but she is not returning the courtesy. They're good kids with their heads screwed on (and they're 18 and 20 this year so old enough to understand a lot) so I'm sure they'll come out of this OK.
I picked up my new specs today. The prescription hasn't changed much but my eyes are aching and my head is, too, so think I'll call it quits for today and go back to my old ones.
And get off the computer!

Briefly
I have finished "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and really loved it. It took a lot to get into it but enjoyed it so much that I'm buying the next book on Friday. I'm still not really comfortable with the translation ... or maybe it's the editing ... as it does tend to jar at times, but the plot? Brilliant! And the characters are beautifully written.
I'm about to start The Lovely Bones and wish I'd read it when it first came out not now that it's A Major Motion Picture!
I had an interview this afternoon. I think I made a good impression and I think I like the job. It will be a huuuuuuge step out of my comfort zone but that can only be good. Right? I'm hoping to be called back for a second interview in a couple of weeks.
On Saturday I have a tentative interview for a position I'm not really sure about.
And I'm still waiting to hear back from a third organisation to arrange an interview.
We had a lovely barbecue at Two and GGFs place yesterday with her parents, One, Ebs, Fireman Sam and Chippy (a mate of One's).
Weight Watching? Suffice to say it hasn't been a good week. Expecting another small gain. I really need to address the head issues.
And on that note I'm off to start The Lovely Bones.

Blink and you miss it!
Where has the week gone?
I guess cos I'm not working the days just sort of blend into each other.
I caught up with the Mermaid.
The boys and girls came over for dinner on Wednesday to say goodbye to Three.
Three left for Bali today *sniff* and I'm waiting for the phone call/text message to say he has arrived safely. Which I will probably get on Tuesday when he remembers!
Mrs Other came down from Canberra and we caught up today. She came with GGF and me to WW and we all had good losses. I have made the 10% mark and bought a charm for my Pandora bracelet to celebrate. An elephant. It's really gorgeous and I love elephants.
I have applied for a couple of jobs. Waiting to hear back re interviews.
It's been hot.
It's been cool.
I went for a bike ride on Wednesday and loved every minute of it. I wish it wasn't quite so windy down this way cos it does make riding a bit of a challenge sometimes.
The house is clean and tidy and is staying that way. A bonus of not working. Three's areas will also be clean and sparkling by the time he gets back.
Book club was great. I enjoyed it far more than I expected to and am looking forward to the next one. We have to read the Lovely Bones and GGF has lent me her copy. I shall have to take notes as I will read it very quickly and by the time the next meeting comes around I will have read a dozen other books.
And it's Friday again and all is good (apart from Three being in another country - look, he's my youngest so I'm allowed to fret!)
